USS INTREPID launched in 1943 the USS Intrepid served the United States Navy for 31 years and formed the backbone of the United States Navy and it’s commitment to peace and freedom. One of the most successful, battle-tested ships in U.S. history is now one of the most unique attractions in New York City. The museum consists of diverse sea, air and space exhibits. Allison & Howard Lutnick Theater a state-of-the-art multimedia theatre with 245 seat capacity features full surround sound and digital projection and currently showing “Intrepid Wings” an action packed film presentation featuring aircraft carrier take-offs and recoveries aboard a modern super carrier. Runtime for the movie is 20 minutes . The Intrepid offers many exhibits including a flight simulator at $5.00 per person. A museum store, visitors center, McDonalds Restaurant, many airplanes including an A-12 Blackbird Spy plane, F-14 Super Tomcat, F-16 Falcon, plus many earlier period aircrafts. Also visit the USS GROWLER, the only intact Strategic Guided Missile Submarine open to the public anywhere in the world. Constructed in 1958 and on active duty for only 6 years the USS GROWLER remains in remarkable shape. USS EDSON, built in 1958 this recently retired destroyer veterans of Vietnam served the United States Navy for 30 years. The USS EDSON was the last of the 18 Forrest Sherman Class destroyers to be retired. USCGS NANTUCKET Coast Guard Ship.
